In addition to growing and studying as an oboist, I've been studying to become a board-certified Music Therapist at the Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida. Music therapy is a fascinating and diverse research-based health profession which uses musical applications to achieve non-music related therapeutic goals for clients of all ages and abilities.
Pursuing a degree in Music Therapy has involved a lot of guitar, singing, drum circles and egg shakers! It's been really fun and I am currently completing my 6-month clinical internship, which is required for us to complete our music therapy degree and qualify to take the national Board Certification Exam. I'm doing my internship with Big Bend Hospice in Tallahassee, Florida, learning from and working with an amazing staff of music therapists providing pain management, relaxation techniques, spiritual comfort, reminiscence, and bereavement for patients and families moving through the end-of-life process.
